Amphibious pumps are highly efficient for ore transportation as they easily adapt to the extreme needs of this industry. Among their innovative features, the high energy efficiency, low maintenance, minimal civil works for installation, and absence of alignment stand out, providing greater peace of mind and safety during operations. These pumps handle fluids in the form of a dense and viscous slurry, composed of iron ore particles suspended in water. The slurry's characteristics, in addition to density and viscosity, include particle size, abrasiveness, and high solid content, all of which must be considered when sizing the pumps for this transportation.
The basic installation flowchart of an ore pumping system typically includes collection, processing, and distribution of the ore slurry to its processing plant, which can vary according to the specific conditions of each mine and applicable environmental regulations.
Even in situations of extreme wear and tear, amphibious pumps deliver excellent performance. This is the case with the pumping system at one of Brazil's largest mines, located in Minas Gerais, where the oldest equipment has been operating for 5 years without any maintenance or intervention, maintaining its acceptable functioning within the company's standards.
Raw water is captured by pumps from deep wells installed underground, and stored in tanks. It is then transported 12 km away to the processing plant, using amphibious pumps that function as boosters.
In this same system, the use of amphibious pumps on a floating barge is presented, which is used for washing the mine vehicles. It has an anchoring system that allows quick and safe adaptation of its equipment.
Overall, this system presents an effective solution for transporting iron ore in varied and challenging environments, which is why it is one of the equipment that is increasingly being implemented in this sector.
